Grandma's Lemon Meringue Pie

Reviewed: Oct. 12, 2008
This is a GREAT recipe. We grow our own lemons and it only takes the juice of half a lemon to get a cup of lemon juice. So that was all I used and turned out PERFECT! I also cheated and used a graham cracker crust which was also great tasting. Thanks so much!

Blackened Tuna Steaks with Mango Salsa

Reviewed: Oct. 12, 2008
My 5 star review is only for the rub part of the recipe. I'll update it once we make the mango salsa - we just didn't have time or ingredients for it this time. The rub is absolutely incredible! We recently moved to Japan and we got some super fresh tuna down at the port. We put on the olive oil part of the rub and then went out kayaking for the afternoon. We got home and made the rub just like the recipe called for, except we left out the thyme because we didn't have it. My husband grilled the tuna steaks and it was absolute perfection. We served it with roasted garlic couscous and grilled eggplant. Everything was wonderful. Definitely have a little water on hand because the fish has kick!

Buttercream Icing

Reviewed: Oct. 12, 2008
This is an excellent recipe. I wouldnt change anything, as the other reviewers have. I think the shortening allows it to hold up better, and from a professional standpoint this is perfect to decorate with. Thanks!

I made this recipe according to the instructions, using all of the ingredients. My wife and I both thoroughly enjoyed it! I served it over white rice, along with egg rolls.

Cheesy Brat Stew for the Slow Cooker

Reviewed: Oct. 12, 2008
Not for our taste I should say but I also used beer instead of water maybe that is why. Could of had a different taste if I followed the directions that is why I am giving it 3 stars

Spaghetti Carbonara II

Reviewed: Oct. 12, 2008
Wow! I've never had this dish before today. I followed the recipe almost exactly. I used a red onion (what I already had) and I used two whole eggs and two egg yolks. This was a FANTASTIC dish.

Slow Cooker Homemade Beans

Reviewed: Oct. 12, 2008
This got me started in perfecting my own recipe. Definitely prefer the 1-hour boil method rather than overnight soak (they weren't soft enough that way). I leave out the bacon, and an hour before serving, fry it up, crumble and add to the beans.

No-Peek Beef Stew

Reviewed: Oct. 12, 2008
This was easy to make but nothing special. I also didn't use the wine and I don't think it would have improved the flavor. However when I did add some pepper, garlic powder (there's enough salt in the soup) and 8 oz. of sour cream it made a pretty good beef stroganoff.

London Broil I

Reviewed: Oct. 12, 2008
Fairly good recipe, but nothing amazing. I made a couple changes: tons of garlic powder instead of the fresh garlic, and 1 tablespoon of lemon juice to cut the strong soy sauce flavor. I also used low sodium soy sauce and freshly cracked black pepper. Let it marinate overnight, and the results were delicious. Served with buttermilk mashed potatoes and steamed broccoli.

Cinnamon Ice Cream

Reviewed: Oct. 11, 2008
This was my first time making ice cream from scratch, and I must say that I was terrified of the process. I did manage to mess it up; I followed the directions completely, meaning that I only *cooled* the mixture, rather than chilling it completely, so the ice cream took forever to "freeze" and it ended up being more soft serve-ish than I think it was supposed to be. So make sure you chill your mixture completely! Mine firmed up nicely in the freezer, however, and the flavor is awesome; I grated fresh nutmeg to put on top and it was wonderful just by itself. Definitely making again, only next time I'll do better. :)
